Grandma taught me to sew
I had the urge to sew today and couldn’t work out why. Then I realised today is the 14th anniversary of my Grandma’s passing.
Grandma taught me to sew.
We used to flip through the pages of her daggy Burda magazines and pick projects to work on together. We’d spend time picking fabrics from her plentiful stash and creating masterpieces.
Now I talk to her while I work. I ask for her guidance and for help when I stuff things up (which is often!).
I tell her about my own sewing projects and about my day.
Her overlocker still smells like her house and I don’t understand any of her handwritten Latvian notes in the instruction manual.
What I wouldn’t give for one more sewing lesson with her.
Miss you Grandma.
