Built in 2008 with our residents comfort and care needs in mind, Germanus Kent House has all the features of a modern, state of the art facility while still incorporating the natural beauty and vibrant culture of the Kimberley region into its design.
Germanus Kent House
Broome’s distinct way of life is reflected in the house’s earthy tones and floor to ceiling windows, which let in the magnificent tropical light and display the surrounding landscaped gardens.
The name of this facility derives from the late St John of God Sister Germanus Kent, who spent four decades working amongst the Aboriginal people of the North West. In her work, she became concerned about the lack of aged care facilities for indigenous people. In September 1991, her dream was fulfilled when Germanus Kent House opened. Southern Cross Care took over management of the facility in 2001 with a new building being built in 2008.
Germanus Kent House provides accommodation and support to 55 residents and is conveniently located near a supermarket, chemist, post office, bank, local medical centre and hospital. The facility is co-located with our Bran Nue Dae centre. It is only a short drive to the world-renowned Cable Beach where white sand, turquoise water and red soil epitomise the beauty of the Australian outback.
We also provide short term respite accommodation, from one day to a number of weeks, providing peace of mind for carers. It can also be an important step in the smooth transition of the care recipient into permanent placement in the care facility.

Rooms and pricing
Residential accommodation create their fees based on a RAD (Refundable Accommodation Deposit) and a daily rate. Many facilities will negotiate these fees. Use the calculator below to see how a lower RAD can be offset by a highly daily rate
