You’ve probably heard of life hacks, everyone seems to be sharing tips on how to make life easier. Well, we thought it was about time we started sharing Gen Hacks, practical advice across the generations.

We say go to the source and hear from folks who’ve had a lifetime to figure out the best way to get through the day.

PAIN-FREE POTATO PEELING. Before boiling potatoes in their jackets, cut off a thin strip of skin around the center. Once they’re boiled the skin will slip right off.

THE PERFECT CHEESE TOASTIE . Before toasting or frying, sprinkle a few drops of milk to stop it going leathery.

THE SECRET OF GRANDMA’S ROAST. When cooking meat, always keep the dripping (fat) and pop it in the fridge. Next time you cook a roast, baste EVERYTHING before you pop it in the oven.

VEGEMITE GRAVY. Forget Gravox, for a delicious traditional Aussie gravy simply pour the cooking juice into a saucepan, add some water, a tablespoon of vegemite and mix until thickened.
